The Blade
Our blades are a made with a mix of Western Red Cedar, Nootka Cypress and either Maple or Black Walnut edges. We use a 4oz fiberglass cloth 6 inches up the shaft for strength and use a marine grade epoxy. The blade edge has an epoxy blade gaurd. We then finish the paddle with multiple coats of Marine Varnish to keep your paddle looking beautiful for life.
The Shaft
Our bent shaft SUP paddle is made with a 7 layer lamination and 10 degree bend. The bend in the shaft is incorporated directly into the lamination so the shaft is continuous from the grip to the end of the blade. This eliminates weak spots and allows for a more even flex throughout the shaft.
We change the flex of the paddle by changing the types of wood in the laminations. For a standardr flex we one layer of maple for a stiffer flex like in our NorthWest Swell Model we use two.
The Handle
Our cut to fit handle is a piece of great pride for us. We went through many prototypes to get just the right look and feel we felt worked and looked best with our paddle. We orientate the grip so you know you have your paddle the right way without looking. We use a multy layer lamination to increase the beauty of your paddle. The great colour contrasts in Western Red and Nootka Cypress make for a dramtic grip. All out grips are finished with Teak oil for a warm natural feel in your hand that won't cause blisters or chafing.
